LINKS TO WEBSITES AND EATING DISORDER ASSOCIATIONS
Something Fishy
The Something Fishy website provides professional information and articles related to eating disorders. This site has a great section on what signs and symptoms to be aware of in identifying an eating disorder, what medications may be helpful for treatment, and blood and lab work tests that doctors should do on a regular basis. The following is the link to this website: www.something-fishy.org.
There is also a questionnaire on this website that can be completed on-line, printed and brought to the doctor to review. I highly recommend anyone who thinks they may have an eating disorder to complete this questionnaire. Also, it can be completed by someone who knows someone who does. Click here for the "Something Fishy" questionnaire.
The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA)
NEDA is a world renowned American association with a great website for families and educators. This website provides information on causes of eating disorders, lists of helpful resources, stories of hope, and valuable tips on how friends and family can offer support. I highly recommend downloading the NEDA Parent Toolkit as it offers information on a variety of issues in regards to eating disorders.
Mirror Mirror
The Mirror Mirror website is Canadian and offers a wide array of information on the topic of eating disorders and treatment. I highly recommend the “Myths and Realities” section as it dispels untruths and provides correct information about eating disorders. Also, I recommend the web page on “Additional Information” as it discussed other issues related to eating disorders such as: abuse, self injury, and addictions.
Looking Glass Foundation
The Looking Glass Foundation is a Canadian organization and has a wonderful website developed by parents and friends who know the fear of living with a child with an eating disorder. There are plenty of resources, helpful links, and information regarding support groups for both the family and the child with the eating disorder. I particularly like this website because there is a section called “Ask an Expert” in which you can ask the registered psychologist questions and receive an email reply.
Woodstone Treatment Facility
The Woodstone Treatment facility is located in Galiano Island in British Columbia, Canada. This facility provides multidisciplinary specialized care for young people suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or eating disorders not otherwise specified. It is affiliated with the Looking Glass Foundation.
Remuda Ranch
This ranch is located in Arizona, USA and has a website with amazing information on eating disorders and treatment. I highly recommend the articles written by Remuda Ranch on anorexia, bulimia, and other eating disorders. There are also several articles written for parents of children with eating disorders, and a great section on medical complications. This is one of the most thorough and comprehensive websites I have reviewed.
Westwind Eating Disorder Recovery Centre
Westwind is located in Manitoba, Canada and has a great website and blog on eating disorders. The “blog” keeps the readers involved and updated on new info happening at Westwind. There is also a “Support Forum” for both daughters and parents to post discussions, ask questions, and share thoughts. Included in this website is a section on the “Dangers of Eating Disorders.”

The ABC’s of Eating Disorders - The Documentary
The A (anorexic) B (bulimia) C (compulsive overeaters) of eating disorders the documentary covers eating disorders and the devastating effects on the lives of real people. In the video anorexics, bulimics, and the often maligned compulsive overeaters share their intimate experiences. The interviews allow the viewer into the minds and lives of someone with an eating disorder. Health professionals also explain the facts on the diseases, how to recognize them, what causes eating disorders, and how to recover.
You can watch the “trailer” and decide if you want to buy the DVD or Video. This is a great video for families to learn about this disease.
